The Smith Park of NY Annual Meeting is an opportunity for all members to hear annual updates about Camp WA WA and about our impact the past year, presented by Smith Park of NY Committees. The Smith Park Board of Directors is made up of volunteers dedicated to ensuring Camp WA WA's sustainability, preservation, and development for future generations.
In addition to our Annual Reports, there will be an opportunity for SPONY members to vote on new and returning directors!
How to Vote
Please be advised that if you donated a charitable gift to Camp in any amount this past year or worked as an employee (17 yrs of age+ and in good-standing) of Camp WA WA, YOU are an eligible voting member at our nonprofit organization's Annual Meeting. You may cast your eligible vote online in advance, or while attending the Annual Meeting.
What's on the Ballot?
This year, we are proposing five candidates for the Smith Park of NY Board of Directors:
John Fisher (Enfield, CT) has been connected to Camp for 50 years - first as Camp Director from 1976–1982, then as a board and committee member since 1983. Multiple generations of his family have attended and worked at Camp WA WA, and that tradition continues with great-grandchildren on the way.
Michael Bruns (Cromwell, CT) has been part of the Camp community since 1981, starting in the kitchen and going on to serve as board Secretary, Vice-President, and President. He currently manages Camp's offseason rentals and returns to the kitchen each summer, where he is a well-known and favorite fixture.
Louise Van Alstyne (Kinderhook, NY) is a Camp alumna, former staff member, volunteer, and current camp parent and the current President of SPONY and SPOMA. She brings over 15 years of professional experience in Information Science and currently helps maintain the Camp website. Her goal is to see Camp WA WA thrive and remain relevant for current and future generations while preserving the culture that has changed so many lives.
Isaac Graves (Canaan, CT) is a former camper and counselor with over 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience. He currently leads a foundation focused on social and environmental change, serves as the current Vice-President of SPONY and SPOMA, chairs the Smith Park Finance Committee, and is leading Camp's partnership efforts with Audubon to protect the natural surroundings of Camp in perpetuity.
Anni-Maxine Quaye (Arverne, NY) is a new addition to the board of directors and served as a counselor in Base Camp and Teen Camp from 2017–2021 and is currently completing her pediatric clinical rotation in the healthcare field. She brings experience in emergency response, youth programming, and community service, and is interested in joining the board to continue her commitment to children's well-being beyond her time on staff.
